dont make them Admin's. make them Global Moderators. Global moderators can do everything the admin can except view change important board options.

Not really no.  What is wrong with making them global moderators?  If you want to modify it, you'll have to modify the code where it updates the settings file.

I would never give someone admin access on my forum that I felt I couldn't trust anyway...  ::)

you can infact, use another database to host yabb se
if its kids you are dealing with.

i wouldn't let them in my database.
on the other hand, if you have only one database,
beg your host to give u one more, it worked with mine

mine offered one but i talked to them for just one more and they did!!!!

good luck bro  ;D

Please, this is kinda crazy.  I trust my administrators to death, but I still wouldn't want to give them my database username and password.  I'm not saying they could or would do anything with it, but just for my sake my mind, rather have it not shown.    Possibly an option in settings.php - "Show database username/password in admin center?" type of option?

But in this case there would be a need for a Supreme Admin, or to have the main admin (who owns the board, has FTP rights, etc.) have to use a password protect feature for certain areas in the adminCP. which just seems kinda silly. but indeed useful for some as in Pebbels here.

Why?  Pebbles wants them to access everything besides the database information, so my way should work.  Now of course there are others that want none of the admin preferences editable, and just the template and boards, yadda yadda- but as you said, very silly. :)

Well as we were merely porting Y1G we still made use of Settings.php as opposed to stuffing everything into the database.

A simple fix is this:

Create a file called database_connect.php and it can look like this inside:

<?
$db_name = "dbname";
$db_user = "dbuser";
$db_passwd = "dbpass";
$db_server = "localhost";
$db_prefix = "";
?>

Now...in your index.php file after:

include_once ("Settings.php");

add this:

include_once ("database_connect.php");

Now you can technically change the db settings in Settings.php to whatever you want and it should still work.
