I have been reading the boards, and saw that there might be an interest in a RPG mod for YABBSE 1.5.4?

Well, I have actually started this mod  You can come to my site to view it and give please give me feed back to improve it.  Right now all it has is the stats listed for each person next to each display, and in the profile for each member.  I plan to add weapons and combat, but I'm really not sure how to go about that yet.  As for now, combat simply uses the Karma.  Please let me know what you all think!  Thank you!

Update:

I've got the basic mechanics to work.  Currently I am developing a method of purchasing items to use, and soon I will have a way to actually use the items you buy.

I am also writing the MOD for this so others can apply it to their boards.  Although I think I will need some help when it comes time to write the script to add the two tables to the database (primarily with making a column AUTO_INCREMENT).  I have also added a screen shot of what the post and profile pages look like:

Actually, yes.  All that I need to do is write a function to buy / sell equipment, a function to use equipment (attack, heal...), and figure out how to write a script to modify and add tables to the database (specifically creating a column that is an auto_increment column.  I may also change the way some stats are calculated.  Pretty much if all goes well, I plan to release version 1 next week :)

Okay, I need some input.  The mod is almost finished (with the attack routine being the only thing I can think of that needs to be written).

What I need to know is:

1)  What happens when a member is attacked and killed (Hit Points  = 0)?

2)  What consequnses would there be for being attacked, if any other than loosing HPs?

3)  What would the reward be for winning the battle (other than not dying)?

4)  Should some of the RPG Stats be hidden from other members?

Please let me know what you all think, so I can finish this and release it.  Also, soon I will need somebody to test the installation routine.  Any volunteers?

1. They should be marked as dead and should need to post x times or something before they can participate?

2. Hmm... nothing but ying, imho...

3. More money, which you could use to do something.  Maybe you get the loser's money?

4. Hmm good one, not sure.

Are you going to make guilds or something like that?  If so, I could see their status in the guild being hidden from everyone except members of the guild.

Other than that, I don't think you really need to hide stats, unless you are going to add special classes or something later on.

BTW, I can probably help you test the installation and stuff.  I have a test environment set up on my computer, and I know a fair amount of php/mysql.  Let me know.

my comment: i think it will be better to only include HP, MP and EXP in the Display page, since too many information will make the post's left column way long, while the right column might be short. other stats should be shown in profile page only

also, maybe it will be a good idea to move the other stuffs under the avatar to the right column (vb way), it'll make the left column height smaller

Spiff has a good point with only displaying the hp, mp and exp in the post display.  It makes sense for the rest to be within the profile..

Yes it does, it also adds a bit of mystery to the attacker:  'Can I attack this person and not die myself?'

;)

I should be ready to start distributing for test installers by the end of this week. :)

Ok, I will gather up a list for anyone that wishes to beta test this.

Mod Update:
I've gotten about 90% of it written, still need to complete magic use and then crafting.  After that I'll need to review my mod code to make sure it should work.  At that point I will release it to all the beta testers.  I really hope to have all of this done within the next week....better yet, since Thanksgiving is coming up, hopefully the next two weeks (just to be sure).  I hope that everybody understands that I don't want to rush something buggy out to the public. :)

Ok community:  I need a bit of help!

I need some suggestions for some magic.
1.  What to call each 'thing'?
2.  What would it do?
    a.  HP damage vs MP damage, or something else?

I've also been toying with the idea that spells you buy can only be used once (you can buy multiples of the same spell, but each one can only be used once (sort of like ammo)

The other thing I need help with is some cool names for some of the things you can craft.  There are currently three things that can be crafted:

1.  Better Melee Weapons.
2.  Magical Melee Weapons (weapons with a spell modifier attached to them)
3.  New spells and magical items (like staves, wands, rods...things that are more perminate)
