Tricked out YaBB skin sites? How Skin-able is YaBB?

Ya'll will have to forgive me.  I'm new and "investigating" YaBBSE.   Currently I am running vBulletin on for all 3 of my communities but thanks to a friend, I am taking a look at other things and wanted to get to know YaBB more.

Is there anyone here that knows how to Skin vB forums and YaBB forums?  Are they similar or different?  I have always contracted out the work but would like to know what is available should I decide to switch.

Thanks,
David

I can't vouch for vB skinning, but Yabbse has proven very simple to jump right into, but the ability to do complex, cool things is also there.  If you browse around, I'm sure you'll get some great ideas from things that others have done...I know I do from time to time.

I have the exact opposite problem with YaBBSE.  There are far too few classes.

lol, if there arent many classes, u can create new ones yourself
but if the default comes too complicated, its pretty hard to edit them, like just for recoloring
example, phpbb's subsilver is very complicated
its not easy to change the colors of the forum

anyway, yse 1.6 comes with a templating support, which will make things more interesting :)

Yeah, but you change bordercolor or titlebg on YSE and half the board explodes.  There is almost no way without mods to compensate for theproblem there just not being a way to separate one font from another or one background for another.  YSE is incredibly annoying with this limitation.  I seriously hope it is remedied in the next version.  I hate having to hunt down 50 instances of bordercolor every time I want to change something small.

although I haven't edited the .css for yabbse, I can see how having too few classes will limit your customization

you can create a different class for everything you can think of and add it to the code, even if they're classes you don't think you'll need right now

if several have the same styles, just define them together, like:

class1, class2, class3 { color: #000000; }

later, if you feel that class2 should have it's own style, define it separately

yes, it's some work, but you'll work only once adding the classes to the code and then only deal with the .css when you need something

just an idea
