hi people, I hope you can help me with this, as I am a total n00b with these things myself.

one day (today actually) when I looked at my yabb se board what I saw was this error message

2: mysql_fetch_array(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL result resource
(/www/htdocs/v074338/yabbse/Sources/BoardIndex.php ln 154)

now, I didn't do anything between looking at this morning and looking at it now, when I noticed the error. I didn't change anything. does anyone know what the source of the problem could be? all the user profiles are intact, but it seems all the previous posts have been erased.

thx in advance

oh yeah, the forum can be found here

yeah, I did read the answer to this question in one of the sticky threads, but I did upload all the files, and I've had this forum for 1 1/2 month, surely the error wouldn't just pop up some day?  ???

First, you need to upgrade to the latest version of YSE (currently 1.5.2).

Find out if there were any upgrades performed to your server (PHP and MySQL are the two most common upgrades/culprits).

I just updated, but I have to be sure on this. updating just means copying all the files from the update to your yabbse directory, or do u have to do anything else?

depends what version you were running, you may have to run either update.php or upgrade.php

ok, last question (I'm really helpless here, I've done everything possible and it still isn't working) .

if I wanted to start over, but keep all the user profiles and, if possible, posts as well, how would I do that. the profiles are still there, I'm not so sure about the posts, can't access any of them. anyway, all this is stored in the database from what I've understood. do you uninstall yabb se just by deleting all the stuff in the yabb se folder? or do you have to do something else? and if I reinstally yabb se again after that, will all the stuff from the database be gone? if so, how do I backup the profiles and posts (skin/layout is not so important, I wanted to change that anyway) . I did a search on backup on this board, but I didn't understand half the stuff I found  :'(
thx in advance.

Most of the information is actually stored in the database, although it'd be worth saving template.php and Settings.php through FTP for reference. If you can't get at your forum, you can still backup your database through phpMyAdmin (I always do it that way anyway), then make a fresh install of YaBB SE and restore your backed up database to that.

To return to these exact questions, deleting the files from the yabbse folder won't destroy the stuff from the database, but reinstalling YSE will (if you use the same database name), which is a pretty solid reason for backing it up first!

Just upload all the files from yabbse_1-5-2_upgrade.zip and then run upgrade.php.

Also, try going in via. phpMyAdmin and repairing your tables.
