Why can't i Chmod ??

I want to secure my yabbse install by chmod my directories to the recomended levels.
I have full access to the webserver but not able to Chmod any of my yabbse files or directories.

Who can tell me what i'm doing wrong.
I use WS_FTP Pro.

do you know how to chmod and are having difficulties getting to work on the server, or are you asking how to do it using that particular ftp programme?

I know how to chmod.
It just wont work on "some" directories.

All I can think of is that maybe if you used the none safemode installed, the directorys got the ownership of whatever user apache runs as and hence you dont have permission to chmod them, can you enable an option to view who owns files/directories in the ftp package and see who owns them?

I thank everybody who took the time to help me. ;D

The chmod problem is solved.

I will probably never know what the problem was.
However after reuploading my entire yabbse directory
i am again able to change the chmod settings .
