Sql Help

I have never used a database before. I know that I can use them, but I don't know how.  I am using www.hostonce.com.

In my control panel, they have me create a new ODBC connection. The first step they have me choose a name (I tried yabbse here) and then type (Access, SQL Server, or Text). I have tried access or sql.

Then, the next step, they have me choose a server (the example is for an ip address) and the database name. I have tried various things, but nothing will work. I also don't know what username and password to use (although I think tech support should EVENTUALLY get back to me on that).

Bottom line, I don't know what I am doing, I don't know how to setup the ODBC, and then I really am lost when it comes to putting it into the install.php script. I have used Yabb on several of my websites before, and I am trying to install this new version.

Any help you can give me would be great. Even the very basics so I know which end is up.

I also noticed in another topic in this section that someone needed to create a username and password, how do I do that?

Sorry, no!

Must be MySQL, which is the first one mentioned in the text I quoted from your host.

Still some confusion here!

SQL server and MySQL are *not* the same thing. At risk of repeating myself, it's MySQL you need.

If you need, send an e-mail to your host asking for some help setting up a MySQL database, just to make sure you get the right type.

Username and password is usually the same as you have on your serveraccount.
