I have converted my 1.1 cgi version to the latest version of 1.3.1, and I have tried too many times to convert using the converter. VERY unsuccessful, and I'm almost to the point of exploding. I keep getting :

"Warning: open_basedir restriction in effect. File is in wrong directory in /usr/local/psa/home/vhosts/mywebsite.com/httpdocs/yabbse/converter.php on line 250"
(I changed the code to mywebsite.com on purpose)

I put the converter.php in my yabbse directory, that's where it's suppost to go isn't it? I have checked and double checked paths so much that I have gone path crazy, whatever that may be. What does converter.php have to be chmod'd to? or does it?

Not sure.... seems to be a permissions problem with your host.

And, so you know... 1.5.2 is the newest version.

Yeah, I meant the perl version of YaBB 1.3.1

Guess I could go download the latest version of yabbse, I'm trying to use the yabsse version from last week. I can't keep up with all the updates ;D

As long as I had converter.php is in the right folder, it's gotta be a permissions problem. I chmod'd it to 755, on a unix server, should it be 666? I tried that too, no success.

I suppose the permission problem is not referring to the file "converter.php" but to the board data that need to be imported. The perl version of YaBB is normally located in the cgi-bin directory where the converter may not have access to. For the conversion the data need to be copied into the public html area or alternatively that cgi-bin directory tree needs temporary world readable access.

There is even a sticky topic containing the same information:

P.S. what about changing your username to something less pathetic? The same referrs to subject texts for your threads.

ALthough i am no coder like some of the greats around here, i also ran into a problem converting my board from cgi to yabbse. Do to issues with my server the only viable workaround there was is as follows.

1. Download and install downloaded Msql  3.23.53 , active perl 5.8.0.805 , php4.3.1 as well as apahce.

2. set them up on my own computer as a server.

3. Once everything was running properly then copied my yabb cgi to the httpdoc in apache as well as converter and a fresh install of yabb.

4. converted yabbcgi to the new yabbse install then did a database dump and uploaded that to my server with yabbse.

If you'd like to see all the problems and so on I had with it the link to the post about it is here.

&

The second link has the problems with setup on my server and such. Look them over and I hope they offer help. BTW Unknown helped a great deal in my problems.
