I am wondering if the copyright string is allowed to be modified, ie instead of:

My Community | Powered by YaBB SE
© 2001-2002, YaBB SE Dev Team. All Rights Reserved.

Can I change it to something like:

1. This forum is Powered by YaBB SE

or

2. This forum is Powered by YaBB SE (© 2001-2002, YaBB SE Dev Team. All Rights Reserved)

?

If possible, 1 is preferred. I will like to change it because I intend to integrate it with my existing website, which has its own copyright statement.

Having 2 copyright will be very confusing for visitors to my site.

Hope the yabbse team can enlighten me on  this matter.

I would guess number 1 would not be allowed but I am not a dev so can't say for sure.

David thanks for the reply... I just find it kind of wierd that the yabb team wanna force a copyright statement, because personally I feel that a powered by yabb (with link) has given them sufficient acknowledgement. But this is their creation and I will respect their decision, yabb is a great piece of software and I find their template system provides the easiest integration to my site. If this cannot be resolved then most probably I will have to look somewhere else...  :(

Hmm...I'd say the "Powered by YaBB SE" is ok as long as it's a link back to the yabbse site.

Considering my a little more than a Dev, I think it's fine ;)

Joseph thanks for the affirmation. Looks like I can start doing some serious tweaking with a peace of mind  ;)

I do understand that I am getting a great piece of software for free, so if it turns out that the modification is not acceptable (I hope not), please feel free to let me know, preferably via email because I may not frequent this board often...

Not meaning to steal the thread but . . .  So can I edit my copyright to just say the "Powered by YaBBSE" if YaBBSE is linked back to here?  I have always disliked having two copyright lines on my site.

Remove your second copyright and make it Powered by David then  ;D

I was trying to be serious.  I have always had the impression the actual part saying copyright YaBBSE Dev Team had to be there.  Joseph just seemed to say it does not.

Hmm..it's an interesting question.  I know when we first started we really wanted the copyright to stay visible - but really, the point of it is to show that it's powered by YaBB SE, and to maintain the copywrite notice in the code itself.

Frankly, at this point, I'm happy with just a "Powered by YaBB SE" link.
