Announcement Board - Admin or Moderator Post Only

With YaBB SP1 ... I was able to set Announcement boards so that only the Admin & Moderator could post ... OR ... could allow Members to start a topic (like an FAQ) but only Admin & Moderators could reply.

I really, really, really miss (and need) this feature.

You can already make a board that only admins and mods can post in =/

Exactly, this feature is already there, you should of noticed it when adding boards, unless of course you haven't even tried it to see if it was there before posting.

No need to be a smart-ass here.

If you think the feature is there, why don't you kindly point me in the direction. I've set boards to be Announcement boards ... but members still post there. I see no selection for it to do what I'm saying.

You can set Catagories so that only certain Membergroups can even see it.

Individual Boards can be set to be Announcement boards, and yet members can reply to the Announcements. They can't POST an announcement, but they can reply! So the only way is to lock the announcement when it's posted, which isn't difficult.

I want a member to be able to start a thread ... but not reply to a thread on the Announcement board.

I'm guess there is a bug with all of this because, the boards that I used to have set as Announcement boards ... once they are unchecked, hit the Modify button ... they are no longer Announcement boards (which is supposed to happen) ... but then I'm unable to set them BACK to Announcement boards. The check box does NOT stay checked.

The only way around that bug that I've found is to reset the board to an Announcement directly in the database with phpMyAdmin. I've run into the same thing more than once myself.

I would like to see a mod which allows Admin AND the assigned Mod to that forum to start posts in the Announcement forums.. Right now, they can only be started by an Admin, NOT a Mod, which seems a bit wonkers to me, unless I missed something.

Thanks, Moya

This is currently not possible although you will have all of this control when YSE2 comes out.

I think we fixed this, when I packaged 1.4.0?

What YaBB version are you running?

I am working on 1.4.1 we are on the last few major bugs. I'll look into this, but I am sure we fixed this?

Nemesis are you sure that isn't the bug I reported when 1.4.0 first came out, and the fix is included in 1.4.1?

It was a typing mistake - accouncement instead of announcement.

Nemesis ... I'm using 1.4.0.

Looking forward to getting YaBB SE 2.0  ;D

Perhaps 1.4.1 will fix the issue.

Thanks for the heads up everyone. I appreciate all of your hard work ... as well as your thoughtful and informative responses!

I'm not sure but I think after the bug I reported was fixed, other small bug fixes were made and they 1.4.0 files were repackaged... if you downloaded the release before I reported the bug then you'll most likely still have the problem. Not sure though, wait for a dev to confirm it...
