I'm going to release a mod which does the average post like in vbullettin, anyone is interested? I ask it because the mod functions, but it has no settings... so if I release it i must put the settings variable and the relative addon in the control panel

Still, don't make it, it doesn't matter whether it's buggy or not, it's not your mod, it's McGuire's, you really need to stop trying to steal stuff...

1. ehy actually it is installed only in my board... This time I asked, however it isn't the same mod with the same source code... it is completely different, because I wrote it for my board in specific.

2. If we want to create the best coded forum we must stop to believe that a mod it's mine or yours etc..., if someone can make the same thing in a better way he can code it mith no restriction (it's not my case) we must understand that it is for the project not for personal glories.. However I'll take a mod from the request for mods board..  

3. Anyone is interested on putting your news in your site by using yabb (the news system it's ready, I'm working on the layout)?

1. Attualmente è installato solo nel mio forum.. Questa volta ho chiesto, comunque non è lo stesso mod con lo stesso codice sorgente, è completamente differente, perchè l'ho scritto in specifico per la mia board.

2. Se vogliamo ke yabb sia il miglior forum mai scritto, dobbiamo piantarla di pensare ke un mod sia mio tuo ecc..., se qualcuno può fare la stessa cosa in modo migliore può codificarlo senza restrizioni (non è il mio caso era un riflessione generale). Dobbiamo capire che è per il bene del progetto, non per glorie personali... Comunque prenderò un mod dalla board di richiesta mod se mi è possibile.

3. Qualcuno è interessato a mettere le proprie news sul suo sito sfruttando yabb? (Il tutto è codificato, non so se esita già... unica cosa ke manca e ci sto lavorando è il layout)

lol. Thta is pretty true, you did modify my mod without asking me. There is an age old rule where you always ask for permission to update a mod. I deliberately didn't update smilies as I had version 1.5 in the works.

Are you serious? After a mod writer spends a very long time perfecting and coding his/her mod, someone comes along and edits it without permission. Then that particular person gets the credit from the people who haven't a clue who made it. The most we expect is recognision.

Now my opinion.  I agree with a lot of things said in this thread.  Someone should have the freedom to write what they wish whether it has been written before or not.  Legally there is nothing stopping them but I know that isn't the point.  There should be clear guidlines of howto give credit to different people when writing mods and what you can do to a mod.  I think that should be written into the source of each mod by the author.  i.e. "You may not make any changes to this mod without direct permission", "Feel free to edit this mod as you like but you may not distribute it", "Feel free to edit this mod as you like but let me know what you do by e-mail" etc.  A lot of programs have lines like that.

Another thing that makes it difficult for mod writers who arn't on the mod team is they have no idea what is going on behind the scenes, what is being worked on and what is not.  Even I do not have access to your forums making it difficult to know what is going on.  I also agree with what Trushna said, "If we want to create the best coded forum we must stop to believe that a mod it's mine or yours etc..., if someone can make the same thing in a better way he can code it mith no restriction (it's not my case) we must understand that it is for the project not for personal glories.. Jedi~, it is like you and Kalin, if you two coould have worked out your personal differences many people expect YaPP or Eztarch would have been much better then what either of them are right now.  I can't complain too much since I love YaPP but I think you get what I am trying to say.

I get what your trying to say, but I've said this many times and I'll say it again, the problem is that even if we had, we'd never agree on one or the others system to use, so we'd never even have compatible code, and I'd rather not start a whole new one after all the work I've put into YaPP, and I'm sure he feels the same way about EZTarch.

Mmm i respect your opinion, (mine post average's mod is quite different than Mcguire's. I wrote it because Mcguire's give me average posts as the total number of post, bho) but I'm only trying to help the community with what can I do... stop.

If you want to release a mod written differently then do so
Just don't release other peoples mods without asking, that was my point.
