I want to make one of the boards within my forum a humorous one where posting doesn't require registrations and also allows using avatars.

How can I do it  ???

No, you can't, because the database stores avatar information with user information. If that person didn't register, how would they be able to use an avatar? The database wouldn't know who to assign the avatar to.

You can make a forum where registration isn't required. Then only the people that bother to register get to use avatars.

umm... but how do I make only one of the boards guest-post enabled? (seems pretty handy for me to make the testforum guest-post enabled) :)

I don't think you can do that with current versions.
