Preparing to Upgrade...

Hi All -

I run a YaBB forum over at www.dealswaptrade.com and we are experiencing PHENOMINAL growth.  We have decided to upgrade to YaBB SE.

Is there any tips, tricks or things I need to look out for?

We have close to 6,000 posts we need to convert and about 400 users.  We fully expect to continue to double our growth every month for the next 3-4 months.

Paths?  We use gravel around here... :)

I do have a question about mods... For YaBB Gold there are a ton of them, but looking around the site here (I've been lurking for about 2 months, just registered today) I can't seem to find any.

Are mods handled differently with YaBB SE?  I read the mention of something called a Package Manager...

Well we've pre-packaged over 20 mods into YaBB SE already saving people having to screw around with having to edit their sources.

So things lke polls, attachments, etc are already included and can all be turned off.

But there is a built in package manager we're still working on as well.

Thanks for your time.  We plan to begin the conversion ASAP as Gold is starting to drain our systems, due to its usage.

I asked about the mods because I want to try and keep the same "user experience" when we convert.

I'm still trying to decide if we should go with v1.0.0 or v1.1.0... I don't suppose, by some change, there is a modification log to read somewhere?

I'd suggest 1.1.0.  Also, what mods did you have on your old board?

Here is what we have installed as of this AM:

- Spellchecker
- Announcements Board
- Advanced IM Box
- Banner Ads (VERY IMPORTANT, WE --MUST-- have this ability!)
- Summary Mod
- Notify Moderator
- Search New Posts (Display new Posts)

The thing we are looking for here is stability.  We cannot afford to have the system blowup and take user accounts with it.  That is why I asked about v1.1.0 vs v1.0.0.

I have a key point... *grinz*

REMEMBER TO BACK UP ! *lol*

no spellchecker yet in either 1.0 or 1.1.0 although I believe there has been lots of talk about one...

you can make any board an announcements board  ;)
Advanced IMs.... hmm I only used IM on yabb gold for a few weeks ... but I love the inbox/outbox and all the stuff in yabbse...
whats a summary mod?  ???
notify moderator is already built in...
search new posts .. we already have I believe ?? ?

personaly I'd wait for 1.3 if I was you.... (in a few days or so I hope *lol*

I modded my yabbse board with just about every mod I could find... havent changed the template but over all I think its much better to manage and use than yabb gold sp1 could ever be... http://www.3dhomeworld.com/yabbse/index.php

the above isnt a plug for my site *lol* but it runs damn fine on my server... and the options for the future are infinitive...   ;D

The summary mod only shows the 2 latest posts when hitting the "Reply" key instead of showing ALL of the posts.  For some of our threads, the pages can be 10+ long and if they have to wait to see ALL the msgs when hitting reply, they could be dead first! :)

How about banner ads?  Any support for them?

We have the topic summary post and can specify how many are displayed.

As for the banner ads...not sure how you are using them but I'm pretty sure you just add them into the template...

Thanks guys, you've made my job easier :)

Now, ONE LAST QUESTION -- who do you contact about purchasing the license?  We need to do a Purchase Order, and Paypal is not an option for us (no way in heck we are using that unsecure service) but I cannot find who to contact?

Thanks,
