On running install.php it tells me that it will install in such directory but to create it first on my webserver which I have done. (what does this mean "Create this directory first, then chmod it to 777!")

Anyway, I click 'Start Installation' and get this meaage

directory /homepages/8/d40544182/htdocs/yabbse does not exist yet, please create it first (i tried my own directory and one suggested above)

Have been browsing through topics but not got very far, would love some help. May notice I am a beginner)

Thanks Tony.

I'm trying to install on oneandone.com. I have my own space which is www.colourguardworld.com and trying to install in yabb/ directory. Features on the server include php and mysql. cheers.

CHMOD it to 777

also, at what step are you getting the error?

If that doesnt work, php might be running in safe mode then use the safe version.

I noticed you siad you were trying to install into the 'yabb' directory - but the path you're using is to a 'yabbse' directory.  Might this be the problem?

I got it to install now, all you need to do is delete the /homepages/8/d40544182/htdocs/ bit and just have yabbse , i also changed it to YaBB and created and chmodded that folder

Thanks 'The One' your suggestion worked wonders but......I am now stuck on step 4. I read an article/topic further down the list headed 'access mysql server' but could not understand it. This is the message:

Warning: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/tmp/mysql.sock' (111) in /homepages/8/d40544182/htdocs/yabb/install.php on line 175

Warning: MySQL Connection Failed: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/tmp/mysql.sock' (111) in /homepages/8/d40544182/htdocs/yabb/install.php on line 175
Cannot connect to database server with given data

Thanks in advance Tony.
