Nothing you can do I'm afraid...

The problem with modem access (dynamic IP) is that you just cannot ban people by IP. You *can* use wildcards i the IP I believe (ie 146.201.*) as these people will always have their ISP's IP number in common (ie only the last few digits will change). However - the problem with this is you ban *everyone* from their IP.

If it's that much of a problem I wonder whether you have thought of turning on user moderation? So that when someone registers you have to approve them. That way you can look at their IP before approving them and if it looks suspecious (similar to ones you have banned before) you can turn them down. That way the troublemaker won't get registered but it will not affect the legit members already registered using the same ISP.

Hope this makes *some* sense - and is right...

perhaps you can create a local cokkie on the machine you want to ban.
eg. the first time the banned nick enters the forum after he/she is banned a cookie is written.
Now eachtimethe forum is entered via that machine this cookie is detected and access is denied.
Ofcourse this will only work when cookies are enabled or until the user deletes the cookies, but its the only ' other'  protection i can think of.

Yea. But then I found that when I was testing banning by username the cookies which is by default created when you use the board is enough to stop you getting in. ie - if you get banned from here and don't delete your cookie you can't re-register or anything until you delete that cookie. If the user is bright enough to delete that cookies they could probably find out the other one you create... ???

The upcoming version includes some enhanced banning features.  One of them allows you to track the IPs a user has, in the past, used.  I think this would be helpful in your situation.

I've never had to look into to banning someone, but that's a very nice feature. :D

If you wanted to ban me, nothing will help you. My entire IP changes. I use AOL. AOL sucks. And yes, David's signature has told me that every time he posts.

Cookies might work, but then again, they can be cleared.

Quck suggestion, the ability to use comments in the ban list would be good, such as

127.0.0.1 //banned for such and such a reason.

Once your ban list fills up its hard to keep tack of why someone was banned...

I have a hidden admin/moderator board which we use to store banned IP's in a single thread, record thread deletions, moderator moves and locks etc
One log per moderator and one for IP's ;)
