Accurate New Posts

Call me crazy, but I would go nuts over this one:

If I view my board index, find that a board has a new post, click on the last post from board index, read that message and finally go back to the board index (big breath taken) -- The board index claims I have no new unread posts in that board, despite the fact that
a) I have not checked the message index for that board
b) There may be 15 new posts in that board and i would be unaware

Does that make sense? Basically, I am looking for a mod that will keep displaying the "new post" indicator image on the board index until all new posts have been read, or marked as read.

Yep, I understand.  I disagree though, I like how it shows new posts since my last visit.  There are many times I will purposfully not read something or ignore it but don't want to mark it read.  I doubt this would be a very hard mod though.

I *really* don't.... but, whatever.

This mod might be difficult.  You'd have to check if there are any topics unread.  Someting like a join, on topics that are unread.  If it's NULL nothing is new, otherwise the board is new.

Could be quite painful and assuredly slower.

[Unknown], if you disagree with me, sounds like my chance are slim for seeing this as an option/feature in an upcoming release.

Perhaps it makes sense only for smaller boards, such as my own.

Sometimes there are only 2 posts since my last visit. If they both happen to be in the same board a lot of people will miss the 2nd post, as they will click directly on to the latest post from the boardindex, return to the board index, and none of the boards indicate a new post.

Couldn't I take the user's last visit time, and check to see which posts are dated AFTER their last visit?

imagine how annoying that would be on a busy board where you might chose to ignore a thread cos it doesnt interest you, but you have to read it to get rid of the new indicator...

Maybe not in the next release but that doesn't mean it won't ever be added.  People have also written far more complex mods, so this could very likely become a mod.
