Trying to Install a new board

Hi,

I'm trying to migrate from YaBB SP1.2 to YaBB SE. Dead easy I thought, after reading the posts on here, I'll install YaBB SE under a new folder called yabbse, run the installer file, then run the converter file.

I tested this on my home PC - not the same set-up or spec but I wanted to see how it worked. It all went perfectly well on teh home version. So I uploaded the yabbse folder and install.php and the .ya file to my site and started the process.

I'm running it from /web/yabbse on my site and yet it tells me that the directory I am specifying doesn't exist - even though the install.php file is running from it. The error is - "Directory does not exist yet, please create it first" - but the folder is there and it has been chmod'd to 777.

Any ideas? I'm not even getting on to the database creation part yet!

I'd like to get this up and running so that I can get it tested and then finally replace the cgi based version...any help will be gratefully received.

Thanks,

Richard.

Is this version 1.5.1?

Are you _sure_ the ABSOLUTE path is that?

Most generally, you can use the path the box defaults to.  It auto detects the correct path.

* Prism329 thinks it might be in need of a safe mode version install.

Just me though.  :)

Hi,

I've just noticed 2 things - it wasn't 1.5.1 - this is being uploaded just now...

AND my version of PHP is needing updated so I'll updated that before trying 1.5.1. My version of MySQL is 3.23.32 - this is above the minimum requirement for MySQL isn't it?

Thanks for the advice so far...

Richard.

Got another question - which is slightly OT but definitely linked!!!

My server support doesn't support PHP installation so I'm having to do it myself - not real problem, but I am unsure where to get the latest version of PHP from - obviously PHP.net but I'm not entirely sure what I'm looking for...I know it has to be a .pkg package so it can be installed but how do I find it?

Thanks,

Richard.

Hi again, only me (I bet you are so glad to know that!!!).

Anyway, I'm running my site off a Cobalt Raq4 and I know the PHP version of that differs from the mainstream version...I chanced my luck and tried the install again - this time with 1.5.1.

The board is up and running BUT, after I moved the previous version's file over my index page has N/A on it where it should have last posted by and time. Also when I log in it takes me to the index page but when I press to do something it tells me I'm not logged in i.e. get to the Admin section to modify my board.

Any suggestions on what to check? THis is probably now belonging to some troubleshooting section, but I'm not sure where to stick it...so it's here - I'll add it to another board after submitting this.

Thanks,

Richard.

Okay... make sure the URL you go to when you log in and the boardurl are the same.... that's very important.

It says N/A because there is no latest post.... you have to run a "Recount Board Totals" after you get logged in.

As David locked my other thread I'll need to answer on here - not strictly correct but never mind!

I'm running MySQL 3.23.22 and the PHP version is 4.0.6 but it's the Cobalt version of PHP and not PHP as found on the PHP.net site...apparently.

My board can be found at http://www.stirlingbikeclub.org.uk/yabbse/index.php - if you could have a nosey it would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Richard.

It's probably your PHP version.... you may wish to try to get an upgrade.

I was hoping that you wouldn't say that!!! The tech support I have doesn't support PHP so I have to do it all myself - no real hardship, except I don't fully understand how to install it! Cobalt also has it's own version of PHP (allegedly), and whilst I'm on the Sun Cobalt site I can't find it anywhere.

I do have PHP 4.5.1 waiting to get installed but I'm not sure how to do it and also if I do install it, will the PHP work as it should on the other sites I have running off the server?

Obviously these questions can't be answered here, but thanks very much for your help so far, it has been appreciated.

The latest package I could find for a Raq is 4.1.2 so you will have to compile from the source.  Take a look at http://forums.rackshack.net, they are very helpful.

Oh superb. Thanks very much for taking the time to do a search.

I'll check it out just now. Much appreciated.

Richard.

<Edited with Update>
Thanks very much for all the help folks, I found a newer version of PHP on www.pkgmaster.com, it still isn't the newest version of PHP but it's enough to get the whole board up and running.

Initial thoughts are that the board is very fast and very robust...I used to get occassional errors with my Perl version, but trying the same amount of stuff on this board has shown it is much more resilient.

I'm well impressed with this board and will have it fully implemented on my site later today.

Thanks,

Richard.
