Another possiblity would be to integrate an online shop within you forum.
In my opinion, this is much better than online constests or advertisments and in addition you also earn more money with such a shop.

What kind of e-shop? What to sell?

I tried that once, but didn't go wholeheartedly into it. I use paypal and noticed that osCommerce has a plugin for using PayPal - has anyone tried it?

Of course, the question remains of WHAT to sell? I've tried a ton of affiliate programs, but haven't seen a penny yet in about a year, so I must be getting the wrong affiliates, or not being aggressive enough in posting their links all over my site. Too many ads irritate me though, and I'm guessing it'd irritate my visitors as well.

Has anyone found a line of products that work well on a variety of sites?
