Or, when they go to the login screen, there is a link that asks if they forgot their password. They can retrieve it by entering their email and selecting the email option...it will send them a new password.

OK... go to your forum as a guest (ie not logged in). Where it says 'Welcome, Guest. Please Login or Register', click Login to bring up the Login screen (obviously). Immediately below the Login radio button (bottom centre of the Login box) is the Forgot password? link. :)
