we have know a merge option is there also a separate option where wou could split the posts in to 2 different topcis

It's called Split - look in a topic at the bottom.

i only see the merge button on my forum.

maybe i need to check something in my mod install settings

Well, you go into a topic.... and in the same place where remove topic, move topic, lock topic, and sticky are is a button entitled "split."
