so your explainantion was a bit off.  I went to a vBulletin board and tested it out.  You can log in but you can't post until you click the activation link.  But I still mantain that it does nothing more than validate your email.  If you have ever used the "email random password to new member" feature of Yabbse you would see the similarities.  But the "click the link" link is slightly better for the user.  less work for them.  Good luck with the MOD.

I have heard a lot of people looking for a way to allow the board admin to approve the member before they can do anything, too.  I tihnk thats what the "registration approval system" is for.

The mod I was doing should be some sort of approval system but I'm still not 100% sure how I am going to do it. Currently they can't login until I approve them but the account is still created in the yabb_members table.

I was thinking of maybe creating another temporary table to store their data until they read the email that contains the link to activate their account. I think the main benefit behind this is to prevent people from creating accounts that will never be used because an email address is typed wrong or other mistakes.

I'm putting the registration mod on hold for a bit as I am going to completely rewrite it. In the meantime I'm going to work on a mod that limits the numbers of IM's someone can have. This might include adding an extra storage box for IM's you want to keep but I'm not too sure on that point yet.

I like the idea of this or even a mod to allow admin to delete IMs older than XX days

Well people wake up and smell the roses if youve been going through the forum i have just about completed this mod where in the preferences they select what method they wish to use when limit is reached which is set by the admin, the admin is also able to disable this system but then will have to run the delete PMs older than yay many days. The oher option for when you reach the limit is rejected any incomming there is also a limit on messages they can keep this is set in admin and if the user trys sending a message there itll give them an error message saying You have to delete some messages before you can store anymore or something, I haven't quite got to this point yet with the new box for keeping them but i was going to do that check out the Up and Comming thread thats where im developing this mod and posting about it.

Great! remind me when you have the beta of that come out because I have members that have IM's into the 6-700s and it eats up my database, so a mod like that would be really good. Shame I have a lack of PHP and mySQL knowledge, otherwise I'd be paying u all back with mods  :)

Ok I'm getting closer to releasing my advanced IM mod. Still not done but I've redesigned both the inbox and outbox and just finishing the code that limits people to a certain number of IM's per box. If they have too many then it just won't allow then to either send or receive more depending on what box it is that is full.
Once that is done I will finish up the backup box for saving messages and it should be ready for testing.
