[REQUEST] Portal mod

Hi Everyone,

On another forum I looked at, they have a seperate Portal Mod that seems to work well.  Is it possible for someone here to wright a similar mod?  I'd do it, but I don't know how to wright mods.

It may be just the thing that YaBB SE needs.

Unfortunately, the IBF Portal Mod works with the InvisionBoard only.  However, if you want a portal Mod that works with YaBB SE then try YaPP at www.YaPP.phpworld.net

He know's about YaPP.  The idea of combining the SSI and News stuff into a single page is what I think he is asking for.

I want something more secure that is YaBB SE specific.

I'm tired of my BBS being hacked because someone hate YaPP.

My BBS software of choice is YaBB SE.

I am looking into ttCMS.  I was hoping someone could do a similar mod.

Yeah, this would be a very good thing.  iBf is actually moving to a dev-team supported Portal in version 1.2, and it would be nice to see YaBBSE have one, as well.

Besides, anyone that has spent any time over at YaPP can tell you things are very ugly there.  Some of us are having a difficult time with the idea of using YaPP because of the unfortunate way users are treated there.

Just in the last 6 months, there have been several times that a disgruntled user has attacked other YaPP sites just because of the frustration in the community.

I don't say this all to bash Eric and YaPP, but I know that ajk and I are far from the only people that want to see a better solution for YaBBSE.  I didn't want the YaBBSE community to be in the dark as to why people seem to be abandoning YaPP and YaBBSE.

To be honest, I'd much rather see an improvement in the YaPP community than another portal.  Attitudes aside for the moment, you have to admit that the code is fantastic, and although I've also gone searching for a new portal as of late, I haven't found one yet that beats YaPP.  I'd rather see the community improve than get stuck with some sub-standard portal.  But who knows?  The mad rush to abandon YaPP can't have gone un-noticed by the Dev team (um, er, wait, may not be a "team"...  Not sure if that's technically a singular or plural at the moment).  So we'll see.

Absolutely.  I would love for the community to get its collective head out of its proverbial buttocks.  When I first started using YaPP, I was amazed at how nice it was.  There are still many nice things about the software.  I don't want to move on.  But I feel that until the dev "team" grows up a little, I have no choice but to abandon the software.  Frankly, I don't like the idea of advertising for the dev "team" when they are being so nasty.

While I don't believe I'm totally in the wrong in some of the things I've done or said, and I don't really appreciate all the bashing (which is nothing short of being a hypocrite on your part), I am working on improving my attitude. I've been working for the past two days on YaPP 0.6.2 (yes, the day of and day after Christmas when I could be playing with my new stuff), and I will be doing more to improve the community, but I can't do it with all the bashing going on, nor can I do it alone. It's not only me with the attitude problems, some of the community itself has some issues of it's own (no one really specific.)

And John, it's http://yapp.phpworld.net, no www there. Also, someone recently bought http://www.yapp.info and had it pointed to the site as a Christmas present to me

I'm locking this thread now so there won't be any more insults.  Eric is doing a great job with the help he does or doesn't have.  I don't even know the guy.  I just post there and have had some converstaion with him.

I use both YaBB and YaPP forums in my web sites.

So I will continue to support both forums and softwear packages.  You can count your money on that.

Just a heads up, it has long been decided (since Joseph and I discussed it over a lunch one day) that we'd like a portal supported by the SE team itself....

So...look for that for version 2.
