Converter.php hangs IE Not Responding

Hi,

I am trying to convert a large YaBB Gold SP1 board to YaBBSE.  The problem I am having is in step 4 of the conversion script.

Everything seams to run fine upto that point.  The permissions, MySQL and PHP settings are correct.

I run FreeBSD 4.5, MySQL 3.23.53, PHP4.2.0.

The BBS has over 1140 users and 9180+ messages.  Is does the size of the database effect the conversion?

ANY help is appreciated.

THANKS

If you have ssh access to your server - try running the converter using Lynx - the tty browser - it is a tad clumsy to enter the values, but can be done - and it willl not hang during the conversion. ;D

I wish I did.  I could fix it then.  The host I was installing it to has telnet and ssh turned off on accounts.

I came up with a different soulution for now.

I just had to go back to Gold SP 1 for the time being.

sorry about that, I should have been clearer - Lynx will work with telnet access also - it just requires a vt100 like interface - real simple - does the job.

I use Lynx all the time in FreeBSD/UNIX.  It's great.
Especially when I need to read an html file from the command line.

I don't use XWindows at all on my servers.

But this friend I did a BBS for already had a host and DNS in place.

I'm having the exact same problem, and it's only a small forum - <200 members and <200 posts.

I ticked the box to clear any conflicting data between the new YaBBSE and the 1.1 Gold.

There was a string of errors regarding files not found in the converter.

Oh, dear.

I think, that I have a similar problem! :( I am converting YaBB Gold SP1 to YaBB SE 1.4 and when the convertor is executing step 4 it writes:

We are now going to attempt to convert your member data files.

Importing Member Data:

And nothing happens then. What can I do ??? ??? ??? Help! ;)

Hey, I forgot, that my main problem is that, when convertor is executing the step 4, IE displays "done" at the bottom of the page >:( And then it doesnt convert anything at all!

I believe that the MySQL database makes it hang.

I've tried with a couple of user accounts installed.
When I do it as root.  I have no problems.  When I
do it as a user, then it hangs.  The permissions, pw
and usernames are correct on MySQL.  I use FreeBSD UNIX.

If the YaBB 1 Gold / SP are located in the cgi-bin folder the read permissions might be lacking for the converter. In that case either move those data into the public html space or temporarily chmod 777 those directories.

I've noticed quite a lot of ISPs will not let you use 777.
