How do I update images?

I'm sure this must be simple, but I'm new to yabb!

I have updated some images in my YaBBImages folder, star.gif, im_on.gif and im_off.gif.

However, when I look at posts on the board, they still show the old icons.

I have downloaded the files from the site to a separate temp folder on my C: drive so I know the images on the site are the updated ones.

How come YaBB still shows the old ones?

sure they are teh right names?  did you put them in YaBBImages?  Is your imagedir pointed to the right place?  Did you refresh your page (it coulda cached)?  have you tried looking at the actual images to check to see if they have been successfully uploaded?

Woah, lots of questions!

I've downloaded all images in the YaBBImages folder on my site to new temp folder on my local C: drive. I checked the star.gif and others I modified, so I know that the updated files were successfully uploaded to the YaBBImages folder on my site. However, I'll look at all of the images to see if the old images are still there, in case I've updated ones with different names, but I think this is unlikely.

I tried emptying Windows Explorer cache of all files to do with my site. The setting is to refresh every time. I even waited till next day, when the cache might have tried to update it.

Is my imagedir pointing to the right place? How do I find out? I've not changed it deliberately, and the YaBBImages folder seems to be the only one with any images in it.

Have checked that the old images are not in the YaBBImages folder. The server definitely has the updated ones.  

How can I find out which images are being used for the stars and imon and imoff icons?

maybe the browser still keeps the cache
u can try Ctrl-F5 or clear the cache in the browser option and reload the page

Thanks guys. Something really strange going on.

I typed in the url mysite.com/forum/YaBBImages/pm_on.gif and it returned the old image! I used WS_FTP to delete the file on the server and upload the updated one from my local drive.

I refresh the browser and it retains the old one! I delete the file on the server and refresh the browser. Right - Error file not found. Then uploaded the same updated file to the server again.

I refresh the browser and the new one is returned!

Very spooky. I think the images must have been cached by my ISP or something. Refreshing such that the files no longer existed dropped them from the ISP cache so the next retry forced it get the updated ones.

Rather long an uninspiring reply, but problem now resolved. Thanks for the help guys.

In the future I'll have to remember to delete files, hit the pages so the images are missing and hopefully update any caches I hit along the way. Ho hum.

i usually hits the refresh button a few times after changing sometimes, cuz IE caches the old file
also u can use the Ctrl-Refresh or Ctrl-F5
