YaBBSE is Super-Slow on My Site

both myself and my visitors are finding yabbse (1.4) to be superslow...every once and awhile it is OK, but mostly slow.  We all feel the old YaBB Gold 1 was faster.

I tried with and without caching disabled, and i have the feature on that requires zlib...but I don't think i have zlib (where can i get it? or does my host need to install it...i don't have my own server?).

I have an older than php than was suggested at install, could that be the problem? (don't just say yes to give me an answer....I need a real solution or else I will have go with YaBB SP.

I'm not using image navigation or avartars.

What could be the problem?

Can we have a url to your site please?  Also which parts are slow?  The board index, some posts, all of it?

Try following this guide, it might speed up your forum a bit.

if it's 1.4 shouldnt the databased be optimized already?
maybe just slow on the boardindex...

I did that optimization and it seems to have helped a little.

Most of the board is slow, the admin section is ok though.  But browsing the posts is slow, esp. board index and logging in and out.

GetRomantic, download the 1.3 safe mode version and grab the BoardIndex.php file from there. Use that instead of the one you're using until 1.4.1 comes out.

yes it should work. In the 1.4.0 version we cut down the number of queries quite a bit but mySQL seems to not like the queries used...so we've fixed that in 1.4.1

One thing about Zlib.  I was going to use that for my board but I'll be darned if I couldn't get it to work.  I tried and tried but had so many conflicts with apache, php and zlib that I threw up my hands and went with mod_gzip.  My bandwidth usage is MUCH MUCH lower and it does it for the whole site, not just the forums.

Disable all image limits and see how that goes.

nevermind. I switched back to Gold SP 1.1. For now....
