We finished integrating the new 1.4 into our site a few days ago, and here are my impressions:
We had trouble with the 1.4 boardindex, so we're using 1.3.1s with no problem.. It is now much faster and much more efficient than 1.0! Wow, what a change.. the server used to slow down to a halt with 450+ users on at once, but now it handles it perfectly. One thing we discovered was the latest messages on main page hack (I found it on these boards somewhere) was completely bogging down the server. We've written our own routine now and that also helps quite a bit.
One nice byproduct: We had several broken threads containing various YaBB and SQL errors. The new install completely fixed them. Go figure
The new features are great, the users really like them. The only request I occassionaly get now is for a spell checker and a "buddies list" (basically, they want their friend's name to be red like an Admins if they have them in their buddy list).
Conclusion: Great update. My deepest thanks to the team.
Our programmer spent lots of time integrating it with our login system, so we won't be upgrading until the next major release. This release looks like it will serve as well for quite some time.
