General Idea for Enhanced Avatar Center

Greetings!

Just to combine some of the ideas from previous threads, along with a new one or two, how about an enhanced avatar center of some sort? Some of the possible features:

• Allow admin to turn on user pics while disabling remotely hosted user pics (to prevent broken images).


• Fix the maximum size feature so that it doesn't resize smaller images to the maximum size.


• Allow users to upload avatars to the forum's server (with size and filesize limits, of course).


• Allow admin to cateogorize avatars for easier selection.

I'd love to see something along these lines, but I guess it's a matter of "those who can do, and those who can't suggest." I'd appreciated any feedback about the feasibility of these ideas. Thanks and best wishes!

I like idea 3 a lot - if I remember correctly phpBB has it.

Idea 4 could be done.

One thing I would like is a 'browse avatars' feature - instead of scrolling through a list the user could browse and see 20 avatars per page (like the avatar gallery here really). That would make it easier to choose an avatar.

All the ideas are feasible - it's just trying to find someone with the time!

I'm planning on doing most of the above in a mod soon. I haven't started yet, but I konw what needs to be done. I won't start until after Smilies SE is out, but that wont be long.
