is there a mod/tweak available to make the news section larger?  

I'd like to be able to enter several lines of text and not be confined to the default constraints.

sounds to me like he's talking about instead of

In the news today
{fade out/fade in}
something happened

he wants

In the news today
something happened
{and then the fade out/in crud}

so that instead of 1 line at a time, he can have 2 or three +

[edit] would changing the table size allow that to happen?

you're basically on track.  

I don't use the news fader, but as for the news line at the top section of the forum, I'd like to expand this cell to allow as much news there as I want and not be constrained to the "less-than-one-line's" worth of text it allows.  If you type more than that, it doesn't show up
