But I've never set up a website before, and have probably gotten in over my head.

However I went ahead anyway. I got a host etc. etc. etc....

All I want to run on my site is a YaBB board, but whenever I download everything via FTP, it looks like it's going to go ok...

I get this message:

Safe Mode Check:

It appears that safe mode has been disabled. You may continue.

So then I proceed, and it says download to directory blah blah blah....I hit start installation, then

Warning: MkDir failed (Permission denied) in /usr/local/plesk/apache/vhosts/anabolicmadness.com/httpdocs/yabbse/install.php on line 99

Warning: chmod failed: No such file or directory in /usr/local/plesk/apache/vhosts/anabolicmadness.com/httpdocs/yabbse/install.php on line 100
Installation starts now...

I am totally lost, I know it says chmod won't convert with Win32 etc...but I don't even know about the converter.php that everyone says must be in the file.

Any help would be appreciated...and feel free to snicker cause I'm sure I'm screwing up something rather simple.

you use the safe mode version of yabbse 1.3.0 this is o.k.!

you have to upload the files archive.ya (binary) and install.php (ascii) in a directory (i.e. yabbse) this directory and the both files need chmod 777! chmod = setting permissions!

try it!

Ok, I understand loading in safe mode, and I've got the install.php in the yabbse file...I'm not sure about the archive.ya...is that the same as the ysa130.ya file? but I don't understand the chmod 777 at all. I'm not sure how that works in the slightest.

and thanks for the help, it is mucho appreciated.

yes archiva.ya was the older name, now its ysa130.ya!

how do you upload your files with an ftp client or have you a upload script? chmod is very important!

I've just been logging into the ftp server, then copying the .zip extracted files over from my pc and into my httpdoc/yabbse folder on my shared server.....let me guess, that's probably not the right way...LOL :)

just uploading the extracted files is correct.

have u looked at the readme.html? its all very simple.

QuoteWarning: MkDir failed (Permission denied) in /usr/local/plesk/apache/vhosts/anabolicmadness.com/httpdocs/yabbse/install.php on line 99

Warning: chmod failed: No such file or directory in /usr/local/plesk/apache/vhosts/anabolicmadness.com/httpdocs/yabbse/install.php on line 100
Installation starts now

these errors are most likely due the the fact that you have not set the correct permissions of 777 onto your yabbse dir.

what FTP client are you using?

I got it working thanks to mediman...and I know it's rather simple for all of you, but this is the first time I've ever tried a website, much less a bulletin board so a lot of the simple stuff is a little more difficult for me.

Thanks for all your help mediman, I appreciate it, and hope I didn't drive you too crazy...LOL :)

Thanks, I've been a member of all kinds of boards, and I love the layout and look of yabbse, it's looks very clean and runs smooth, and once I got past some of my errors that I created myself, it wasn't too hard at all to get going. :)
