This could be a quiz ....

Resolved my past issues, now the install.php works BUT usign the mighty info.php command I can spot that PHP is still linked to its old and internal 3.something MySQL version instead of the latest I have already installed.

Of course there should be a php.ini setting of some sort to add ...

but which one ???

If anyone of you knows, please help, I'm sure this will help all others with this sort of problem ...

Thanks, powergen

yessir !

Ok, I have Windows XP Pro, Apache 2.0.32 and all runs smooth.

I then installed PHP 4.1.1, latest version and MySQL 4.0.1 latest version too.

PHP works good but when opening a php page with the php code line "info" I'm told that PHP is using a 3.x.x client version of MySQL.

This is so since MySQL is now by default installed in PHP, comes within it and always enabled.

But, having downloaded the latest version I would like to use it instead of the boundled one.

I have browsed PHP and MySQL sites in search for help and just found a little reference about it in PHP manual.

Unfortunately the manual at that point states that you can use a line of code  "--withmysql=/path/to/mysql" but this line is to be used compiling the Unix version of PHP not the binary of Windows.

So, since I believe a so basilar question should be already ironed out, I'm in search of help. I expect a simple code line in php.ini, a not by default present line, to point PHP to the right directory and therefore to the latest updated MySQL Version.

I hope I have explained myself, thanks again for your help,

Ok, here it goes, I hope it will be of help to somebody ....

MySQL has a client and a server side.

PHP includes a client side by default, when you download MySQL latest beta or alpha you download the server side that will be running the database.

So, two different components, two different versions, no need to be the same one.

:)

Bye,
