The home page lists the ability to host multiple YaBB SEs in one DB.  I've searched the forums here for info about this, but haven't found anything.  Can someone point me in the right direction to find some more info on this subject?

you just need to use a different table prefex when you install it.

for example you might use yabbse1_ and yabbse2_

Doing it that way you then end up with two totally separate systems, correct?  Is there any way to have multiple YaBB SEs that share the individual forums?  For example, would it be possible to share a forum on Overclocking across multiple sites so that posts made on one YaBB SE shows up on the others also carrying that forum?

If you do it the way you're suggesting, johnd, you'll have several different forums in terms of interface, but they'll all utilise the same messages, users, etc. I can't see why you'd want that  ???

I run the Hardware & Gaming Network (HwGN).  I created a hack/MOD based on Ikonboard 2.1.9 that allows by passing a command line parameter to allow multiple sites to share the same set of forums while having the ability to customize their forums in style, name, which forums they carry etc.  Forums can be shared in this hack/MOD to allow multiple sites the ability to all post to the same forum.  This drives more traffic to the forums from sites who may otherwise not be able to drive enough traffic to a forum to make it very active.

I used Ikonboard for this hack/MOD, because I was already using Ikonboard on HwGN.  Before going any further with the hack/MOD, I was looking at the forum software that is available to see if anybody else has already done something similar.  No need to do all that work if there is a faster forum software such as YaBB SE that already has the capability, or can be easily MODed to put it in.

Here's some links to some of the sites using my above mentioned hack/MOD that share forums.  They'll give you a better idea as to what I'm talking about.

HwGN Forums
OCAddiction Forums
Viper Lair Forums
Windy City Racers Forums

What happens if the web host forces a prefix at the start?

can we still run multiple yabbs on it by adding another prefix after the first prefix?

Tony.
