"Invalid character used in Username" error!

I just installed Yabb 1.5 on a windows pc running the latest php 4.3 and mysql 4.05 and I keep getting this error whenever I try to log in or register ANY name:

"Invalid character used in Username"

help!

Quotemysql 4.05

Wasn't the requirment 4.22?  You might try installing the newest version.  After all, it's free - I see no reason not to upgrade.

you're thinking of php, not mysql.  I have php 4.3

update: this error seems to be limited to IE -- i logged in in netscape just fine

Have you tried all the methods of login?  (the quick login, vb style login, and the login section?)

I believe all users of my board get the "Invalid character used in Username" error.  But only in the main login (not the smaller login area below - why are there two on the screen anyway?) and only when the "Always stay logged in" checkbox is checked.
