Hi!

It would be nice if we could have a login sound alarm when members enter the forum......also an option in member profile to turn sound on/off.........some code like:

the HEAD code is
<script language="JavaScript1.1">
<!--
function stopErrors()
{
return true;
}
window.onerror = stopErrors;
// -->
</script>

and the BODY code is
<script>
<!--
{IF|$member_sound==1}<script>document.write('<EMBED SRC="http://www.yourdomain.net/sound.wav"; AUTOSTART="true" HIDDEN="true" VOLUME="80%">')</script>
// -->
</script>

and the profile code is
Sound on/off:
<input type=checkbox name="sound" value="1" {IIF|$member_sound|checked}>

The "door bell" would only ring for someone once you load a new page.  If you are taking 5 minutes to post a message and someone enters the forum, how does that work when you hit the "post" button?  they may have entered like 4.9 minutes ago... makeing the doorbell a bit more annoying than useful.  What would happen if three peole entered while you were posting?  Does the bell ring just once? Or three time?.  How would you even determine if someone new has entered the forum each time you loaded a page?

It is interesting but since the forum is not "real-time" like a chat room or IM, I don't think this is really a feasable idea... but it is interesting.

it'd probably work better if you had a line under the news with the names of the members that logged in since you last loaded a forum page and are still online... that way you take a quick look and know... without the bell

or, there  could be an icon, similar to the green/black diamond in the forum index, that changes color when there's someone that logged in since you last loaded the page and is still online... and if you click on it, it jumps to an anchor at the bottom of the page where the list of names is

actually I like the second idea better, I like to know who's online without having to look at the index to see the members... so this list in every page could be a full list of online members and there could be a small icon next to the names of those that just logged in or just a different color for those...
