i think it would be a great idea if the YP's (especially the installer) were gziped, it realllllllyyyyyy compresses it. Its not exactly dificult to code at all either.

I was messing with this idea before, but the problem is that some servers do not have zlib installed.

I then thought about writing up a simple (well, a complex one for RLE...) RLE compressor for PHP, but decided it wouldn't help terribly much.

If you can point me to a routine that uncompresses a gzip WITHOUT using anything unavailable (or even by default off!) in PHP 4.1.0, then go ahead.
