View Newest Message 1st/reply # problem

I'm having a problem with 1.5.1rc1.  I have the show newest message 1st enabled but the reply # still starts @ origin then 1,2,3,4 so it's not in reverse order.  If someone reply's and it says reply # 9, then someone else replies, # 9 is then # 10.  Is there a way to reverse the reply #'s so that they stay the same?

This is a problem, but it could be easier to fix...

I think you can edit Display.php and change $counter = 0; to $counter = mysql_num_rows($request); (or result, I'm not sure... :/) and then change $counter++; to $counter--;

This is all without looking at the code... but i hope it points you in the right direction...
