project management mod

So here's the deal. I know hardly anything about php, but I am in need of a special script that's sort of like a forum, sorta like a help desk and sorta like a project management script... yet nothing I find has the right features. Perhaps, if anyone is interested, this may be an easy little project for you, that may help out other people than just me. It could be a whole new script, or it could just be a mod.

Here's the specs:

This script would allow users to create an account and edit a profile (with email address, house address, phone number, etc). They would also be able to "order" something (in my case, freelance webdesign, print design and art, for some people it could be custom scripts or what have you!) and fill out the specifications of what they want (able to add form fields depending on what it is that they want to order). Then, that is posted to where they can go in and make ammendments (to maintain coherency, perhaps not allow posts to be edited, but put a input field after the content to where the user could fill out and submit, posting that after the original). With each order a new "forum" would be started. The admin(s) (the ability to make more than one admin would be groovy too) would be able to post replies in the order, or post new threads dealing with different aspects of the project (as well as tasks).

The admin will see all of the users upon logging in, and after clicking on one he or she would see the different forums/orders for that user, however the user would only see his/her posts and orders. and perhaps there could be a forum that is able to be viewed and posted by everyone. or maybe one that the admin could post announcements. a calendar with tasts for the admin.

But generally, this could go many many different ways... you could have PMs acting like emails, a chat, etc etc...

However, here's the catch-- I'm saving up all my money for college (I start next year) so I doubt if I would be able to make any serious contributions for your efforts, but if you are interested in working on a project like this as to either challenge yourself or do something useful, let me know, because I would love to use something like this.

*I will be sending this to other developers as well. Maybe someone will bite.*

Well point 1 this would not be an easy mod
Point 2 hard to make on its own
Point 3 Check out http://www.hotscripts.com under php they have lots of ecommerce stuff for free.

1. I have looked all over on hotscripts with no prevail.

2.  To some php gods out there, this could be easy. actually, there are quite a few scripts out there that are under the general user license... you could just mesh 'em together, do some tweaking, etc. if i knew php well, that's how i would do it anyway.

3. This is just an idea. I'm not really sure where to go to get something like this in someone's head and heart to want to do, but I figure in order for anything to happen I just gotta start putting the idea out, so forgive me for posting stuff that's "too difficult."

It would be very useful indeed. The best product I've seen so far is probably PHProjekt, but put simply, I don't like it. Its more like a full-featured employee/project management system -- a punchclock, events calendar, and task manager all rolled up into one.

And its very ungainly. :P

I know there are sourceforge clones out there, but I havent found one that suits me well enough to be of any use.

Anyway, I'm afraid that what you're talking about is not actually a mod but a whole new project. For that you need to really get it into someone's heart and head, like you said, and not just one someone, more likely than not. And where you don't have PHP experience, I can only say... good luck.

I can offer only the most miniscule sliver of hope: I'm working on a CMS that would be well suited to a project like this down the road, but the CMS is only just in its EARLY design stages, and I don't expect to be to the point where we could do anything like that for a long time.

I think it's cool you're working on something similar. Maybe after you get something I'll help you beta test.

But meanwhile, I'm creatively using Invision Power Board. lol

Just curious, but how does that put you closer to your goal?
