limited access mod?

I'm interested in having a mod that will allow me to place members into a member group that will only allow them to post in a specific board.  My moderators have come up with a novel approach to "problem posters" (I run a political discussion forum  :-\).  What they'd like to do is create what is essentially a "time out" room and then by placing a member in the time out group restrict them to only posting in that section until they agree to behave.  It sounds odd I know, but it's amazing just how childish 30, 40 and 50 years olds can behave when politics is the topic of discussion.  Anyhow, I'm nearly code illiterate so this is completely beyond me.

Oh!  I'm running YabbSe 1.5.

Thanks for any help.   ;D

Kewl beans.  It'll be so much easier to limit the areas available to those who misbehave than to give access to everyone else.

yes i know  ;D

well if you want I will develop you a temporary mod for you that will lock all members of a certain group to a page, you will have to edit the pages yourself but I can give you the script, and there will be some things youll need to customise in it but ill tell you how  ;)

;D  That'd be great!  Unfortunately I'm pretty much code illiterate.  If we went that route I'm afraid I'd rather rapidly become a pain in the asp with asking questions.  I'll just wait until I see it out and go that route rather than become a real bother.  Thanks alot for the offer though.

As a temporary workaround, have you considered making two membergroups, one for problem posters and one for everyone else, then only allowing access to the main categories for the 'everyone else' membergroup, and only allowing access for the 'problem posters' membergroup to the Timeout Room category?

Maybe not an elegant solution, since what you really need is for it to work the other way around, but it would certainly work for the time being.

That's actually what I was considering doing.   I'm also giving serious consideration to limiting access for new members to the less controversial areas of the board and then after they've spent time on the board they can "advance" to other areas.

Good idea.. I know what its like to deal with deliberately inflammatory people when it comes to politics... certain members of my family would likely end up in your Timeout Room from day 1. ;) Maybe this way, you can weed out potential flamers before they are able to really offend people in the more sensitive topics.

Then again, I'm sure some of them would have a piece to say about that, calling me all sorts of interesting terms and accusing me of Cencorship. ;)

COMMUNIST!!!!

Seriously, however, it is a good idea to use that method for now, until a better method is built/modified into YaBB SE.
