Finding Banned User's Multiple Names

Even though YaBB SE has three ways to ban, we all know that when you really want to keep a person out of your forum, it's basically impossible to stop them 100%. That's why it would be good for someone to write a mod like the one I'm about to describe, if someone hasn't already.

What we need is a system that finds probable alternate identities of users by 1. Checking for similar IP addresses and hosts and 2. Checking what other users have logged in on the user's computer by using cookies. The current system that just logs the poster's IP address simply isn't enough.

A system like that would be really helpful, and I would do it myself if I thought I knew a way to add it in. If anyone knows any other existing mods related to banning that might help me, please let me know about them. Thank you.

well its moved but this sort of system then makes it a 120% accuracy thing where other members are banned for no reason.

You could set up a monitoring system i spose which monitors this person for you and shows you their posts.

But also you can't use the cookies to see the other usernames as cookies have timeouts and are closed on logout.
So that system seems to be impossible (sorry)

YaBB SE has an excellent system for banning members and its about the best your gonna get without banning others as essentially you will end up banning alot of an ISP. Due to non static ips.

Why not make a new cookie for keeping track of that, rather than just using the existing ones?

i should rename it to double ip checker or something.

...I'd like to investigate the possibility of developing a more intelligent banning system...

I really believe something like this is needed.. banning is such a difficult thing to do with accuracy, and using only one piece of identifying information simply won't cut it.
