problems with converting yabb gold.cgi to yabbse

i have uploaded the yabse, with no problems, quite proud of myself, but would like to convert my old board with is yabb.cgi
these errors come up on step 3

any ideas? i have looked through this board, and will carry on, but any help would be much appreciated, before i tear all my hair out. I am quite a newbie at this kid of thing, so i may have missed something trivial.

Looks like the converter is lacking read permissions to the gold data directories.

so does that mean i have to set the permissions on my yabb folder on the cgi to 777? and do i also have to set the html yabb folders to 777 too?

Yes, set them to 777 fr this process and see how that goes.

Also, make sure you are putting the correct path to the old forum in the first few steps. It looks as though it isn't correct.

hi, thanks for the help, i am pretty confused, and a complete newbie on php, have ordered a book, so hope to learn it asap.

yes, i know i have to change the YaBB to yabb, but i am having problems with the paths. my yabb file is in my cgi folder,
very confusing

p.s if i do not get in converted, how do i set the admin up? i did not do this while installing as it said you shouldn't if you want to convert it.

Well it will convert your old admins to become your new admins. Just use your regular admin account that was on your YaBB board.

no, the problem is if i cannot convert the board, then i have no access to any admin on the yabbse one, as i did not make one

Well then just make an admin account, it isn't as if you can't delete the account later on after you tranfer your YaBB board.

Instead of double posting, you should have made one new topic

Anyway, instead of putting a URL for the old forum, put a real path. if they are on different servers, move the old files to the new server and convert them there.

OK, so there is no way in which i can do it without moving the files? The reason i ask is because I recently changed ISP, and my new ISP wont lt me log into that FTP address with this dialup. i have to dial up an old number, which i get charged for...

Um...all you need to do is dial into the internet and use FTP to get your old file. Shouldn't affect anything to do with dialing in...

My old ISP have a bar on FTP from any other dialup address than their own... I have now got dialup.panther.co.uk which is not eigg.sky.net.uk (my old one) and they wont accept this...
