How about a user activation mod?

I know that in vBulletin there is a way that before a user actually gets access the the board after signup, they have to activate their account.

Basically, after signup, they are sent an email that they have to follow the directions contained within to activate their account.  Until they activate their account, they are unable to access the board.

Search after a mod before you post it...

I read that post, it is not what I am talking about.

In VB, you can signup, but before you can access any boards, you have to go through what is called a user activation.

Meaning, you signup, you get an email telling you to go to a certain link, that link will then go to a web page that will then modify your user so that it is activated.

No admin needed, just click link, done.

You don't seem to get it, there is no admin involved.

Try a VB board some time, signup, you will get an email.  See what I mean?  This is what I want for YaBBSE.

I don't know enough about PHP to do what I want to do.

Basically, the member table would have a field named 'activated'.  Defaultly, when a person signs up, their user entry would have their activated field set to '0'.  If the login check function detects that the field has a value of '0', it will display an error message.

When the signup process is complete, an email will be sent to the user telling them that they have to complete the signup process by clicking on a link.  That link would then run a script that would change the 'activated' field in the user entry to a value of '1'.

Once the user is activated, the user may do what they want to do.

Note that there is no admin needed for the user activation.  All it requires is that the user continue the process of signing up by following the directions in the email.
