Still having major problems with my spammer from hell.  He gets past most of the banning methods available and then it hit me; surely you could make a mod where people can't use free addresses and have to use isp addresses instead.  They can obviously hide it if they don't want it on display. This would really help with the problems i have with this guy that uses hotmail addresses etc by the thousand.  Plus i can complain straight to their ISP when i get abusive mail etc.

Make it so you can only post like every 30 or 45 seconds.  Then after a while of them not bothering to post decrese it again.

 already have it set to 60 secs as default, when i say spammer i should clarify that and say abusive poster.  Its not so much quantity, its more that he registers as many people and makes a total nusiance of himself all day, coz he just sits in front of his Pc as part of his job.

talk with your hostingprovider and/or go to the police.

get the IPscan mod by Jedi~.  Check to see what ip's he is using.  if he uses ips that are very similiar to each other, just use a wildcard.  You could always ban a group of email addresses btw.

Also, I think david or someone created a mod to completely disable new registrations.  If you stop him for a while, it will be all better when you start if up again.

I had the same prob and i used the IP scan (I think that is what it was called) to search usernames IP addy's, which I found a common one for the butthead.  Only prob was it was an AOL account, so I couldn't really block it out.  But I did find that the same IP address was used by a normal member on the same day, and when I confronted him about it, of coarse he denied it, but the crap stopped too.

Well i am using probably about 8-10 wild cards currently, as u can imagine its keeping him out but i had my 1st e-mail today from someone else asking why they're banned lol.

 As was previously stated trying to ban aol users is a nitemare i really feel like the only way im gonna get rid, is to shut the board down permanently, but anyhow if you could give me the url of both mods you mentioned id appreciate it, I can't find them in the obvious thread.

send an email to aol.  AOL sucks so you can't ban them but atleast you can tell them what is going on and keep sending them letters.

Don't know  where you are from but whatever, here in germany it is a kind of sexual annoyance and crimanal. I'm sure that it is also in other countrys.

It looks that it is the only right way to go to the police as sylvester said.

i hear you on the flamer from hell.  I've had many.  

A mod that allows people to register but puts them in a queue that admin must approve would be so great.  Then admin can choose to deny all free email accounts...or a mod that auto prevented free emails from applying.

The IP ban isn't great with computer savy people cuz they know how to mask their IP via anonymizers and other methods.

Right now I deleted the register script to prevent new registrations.

There was an idea to just allow admins to register ppl.  Not sure if it made it into a mod.
