Board's read/unread linked to Topics inside

When you open a board that has multiple topics inside, it automatically switches the board to even if you only read some of the topics...

...in other words, it still indicates the board as 'old' even if there are still new posts within the board. Can the status of of the boards in some way be linked to whether or not there is a new topic contained within it?
