Problem Description:
Sorry for this very basic question but I can't find an answer by searching.

What does Clear active log in the admin functions do?

I'm not game to click on it in case it clears all the messages.

It clears the online list at the bottom of the board index. When you run it that list will be emptied.

Thanks Chris.  :)

Glad to know the fact I've never used it hasn't affected maintenance of my board then.

I have another question.  Do private messsages need to be cleared or are they all stored there forever?

Well they are stored until the specific users deletes them from his inbox and outbox... if they don't delete them, they remain in the table.
