Hello everyone,

Just to post a reply to this, as Jeff mentioned our name above.

I wanted to clear up exactly what our ban on SE is. We have not completely banned SE, only versions below 1.5.0 which don't contain the speedupboardmod (think that's the name, please correct me if I am wrong ;) ).

We didn't ban it because of security concerns, it was due to load related issues. I think we can safely say that issue was resolved with the release of 1.5.0 (I think), as we haven't noticed any such problem since - thus don't ban versions above 1.5.0.

As for the security, if there are security holes it wouldn't really matter providing the host has Apache configured correctly, the maximum impact is that the end user's account gets wiped out. From a hosts point of view, this isn't critical and I don't see this as a reason to ban the script.

Anyway, just wanted to clear up our position on this.

Have a good day all :)
I know I for one appreciate the clarification.  Thanks.

Just to give everyone an update, our host decided to keep the ban until they can look into it further, which is of course completely useless to me if I want to avoid converting.  I wouldn't convert and then convert back....

Either way I'm going with another host as I found a better deal, and have had other problems with the one I was using anyways.

My new host Dathorn.com has no problem with YaBBSE.   So I'm about to create a MySQL database that will hopefully be identical to the one on my old server.  Is there a guide for transferring my forum from one server to another?

There are a few guides floating around on the FAQ board.  Also if you have problems there are plenty of people willing to help.

Is it just a matter of moving all the files over to the new server and recreating the SQL database?  Or is it more involved than that.

That's mostly it.  Just make sure everything is moved over right.

Here's a suggestion:  Do a fresh installation of your existing version on your new host.  Then just COPY the existing files from your old host to the new host, and import a backup of your database.  That'd be the fastest way to do this, and not have to deal with permissions.  The only drawback to this is that you will need to make sure your paths are correct in Settings.php before you move your old one over the new one.

if you have SSH - then it might be worth logging in and ftp'ing the files from one host to another.

you can dump the databases to a file and transfer them too.

Then all you have to do is change your settings file.

Thanks for the suggestions.  I'm thinking I will do a fresh install, then copy the files over and adjust the settings.php.

I have 1.5.1RC1 and I'm also thinking this would be a good time to upgrade to 1.53.   I'd like to do a fresh install of the latest version and then copy over the messages and members.   How can I do this without conflicts? What files should I avoid?

Or would I be better off just moving it over and then applying the upgrade?

For moving your database read these FAQ's:

Hello again, I tried transferring the database over without success  ???   I exported it like in the tutorial and I followed the directions exactly.  I didn't have a run query option in my new host's phpmyadmin/mysql so I had to use the import script.   Every time I run the script I get "Executing query 1
Error: No Database Selected" on every single query run.

I've tried setting the forum variables in the script to
db: altmode_forum
user: altmode_altmode

AND
db: forum
user: altmode

Which format does the script expect anyways?

I've also tried creating a database on the new server with these names prior to running the import script.

I run the script in the cgi-bin/yabb/ folder on the forum.sql file.

Either way I always get those errors.

Its *4* variables: db name, db user, db password and db host. Maybe your db password or the host entry is wrong. The values must be identical as you would enter them into the yabb se board settings. Ask your host which are the right entries.

Yes I did set all the variables, I was only referring to the ones I was unsure about.  I set the password correctly and:

$db_server = "localhost";   // can usually be left

which is what it was

Either one of the 4 entries is wrong or the db is not yet completely set up. Otherwise it would work, trust me.

I trust you 100%  :)

I got the script to run correctly:

$db_name = "altmode_forum";
$db_user = "altmode";

as opposed to the other variations I had before.  But when I go to my forum I get this error:

Access denied for user: 'altmode_altmode@localhost' to database 'altmode_forum'

Maybe this is because I'm only the test server (the dns hasn't propagated yet), and YaBBSE expects the actual domain it's installed to?
