1.3 Conversion

I just downloaded YaBBSE v. 1.3 (safe mode), and I saw the note at the bottom of the page that says a converter is in the works.

Will one of the older version converters work with 1.3?

I'd like to distance myself from the Perl as soon as possible without offending my users.   ;)

I'm not totally sure.  You might try it.  Joseph did mention to me that we need to update it but give it a shot :)

Honestly I'm not sure - I feel it's probably that there are updates needed, but I haven't looked at it in months.  So I don't know.

So far I haven't been able to get the old converter.php to work with the new version of SE. I'm trying to convert YaBB Gold SP1 to YaBB SE.

I'm getting errors galore.

I've retrieved the most recent version of converter.php I could find.

Here's the question(s):

1. Where does the converter.php file need to be in order to work properly? The errors say File is in wrong directory

2. My YaBB SP1 (old forum that I'm trying to convert) is at /cgi-bin/ and the new YaBB SE is at /httpdocs/forum/
(I am using the full server path, just not posting it here). Is there something I need move in order for the converter.php script to recognize the locations and get rid of these error messages? I've read through each error carefully, and for the life of me I can NOT see why I'm getting the "location" errors.

3. What permission does the converter.php file need to be set to ... 666?

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. I have been trying to get this forum up again for over a week now; there's over 230 registered members ... and I'm afraid I'm going to lose them at this point.  :'(  If my sad story moves you to help me ... I finally did something right as it relates to this mess. LOL

I just got the silly thing to work.

Here's what I did:

Take the old version (YaBB SP1) and move it via FTP to the same base directory as the YaBB SE version. Many of you may have servers like mine which did not like munipulating files with cross-directories.

So it might look like this:

/htdocs/yabb_old version_SP1
/htdocs/yabb_new_version_SE

Since both versions have the same base directory of /htdocs/ the converter.php was able to do it's thing.

I've spend HOURS messing with this, and yet the simplest thing actually worked. Having the old version in the /cgi-bin/ didn't work. Since it doesn't have to operate, just move everything to the same BASE DIRECTORY ... not the same directory. If your YaBB SP1 folder has the same name as your new YaBB SE folder, just rename the SP1 folder to something else. You'll specify the server path when you run converter.php ... from the same base directory ... by the way.

Remember ... we are just converting files here ... the old version doesn't have to run properly when you move it to the same base directory, which will be out of the cgi-bin; the permissions don't even have to be correct.

I sure wish I was thinking this simple 6 hours ago!  ;D
