How can you change a username?

YaBB SE Version: 1.5.5

Problem Description:
A user requested that her username be changed.  Thinking that was a simple enough task, I changed it in the database with phpMyAdmin, which worked, but with one major problem:  all posts she made in the past year were no longer associated with her account.  If you clicked on one of her posts, it said the user did not exist.

I suppose there is another field that needs to be changed so the posts are associated with the new username, but I can't find it.

Can someone tell me how to change a username AND have the associated posts recognize the new name as well?

thanks

You will have to alter all of their posts to put their new username in it.

If you use the search feature here, you should be able to find a post that has a query that will update all the posts...

Or somebody will come along later to post the query you need or a link to the other recent post with that query.

There is a mod for this...  Look in the Completed Mods board.  It is probably called something like "change username" and it is made by Douglas.

Thanks both of you for the information.  Based on Chris's post, I just finished editing 241 posts with the new username, so that took care of that one.   Whew!

Thanks for letting me know about the mod, Shadow's Pawn.  I have one more user to change who has 300 posts.  After the first one, I'm glad there's an easier way!

You know you can just run a query to change all the messages automatically instead of manually editting each one...
