You heard the rumors, you've requested the features, now you get to see some of the work.  This version is not going to be released as 2.0 even though at least 90% of it has been rewritten.  It started out as Unknown's secret project and has eveolved into being an official release plus more then he was ever planning to include and do to it.  Please remember, every time you ask when a version will be out, a llama dies; so don't ask.

I had a feeling Unknown's secret project would find its way into an official release of some sort. It sounded far too ambitious for just a mod or personal release.

Now I'm going to wait a bit longer to update my forums with some personal add-ons I've been working on, but I'm sure it will be worth it. :) It will probably make some of my work obsolete anyway.

Thanks for the continuous hard work, folks!

I'd like a thing to make static html threads and archive them.  I keep saying that and no one seems to listen.  Why?  Search engines like 'em much better than php/MySQL threads (yes, I know about making php addresses search engine friendly) and when search engines like something I make money.  I dropped dcforum for yabbse.  The 3,000+ selected threads with banners in the old dcforum archive make me money every day whether I work of not.  Larry

I'm also very pleased to see it becoming part of the main YSE line because it's always sounded desirable but I could never quite work out the support implications for it effectively being a colossal mod when mods aren't part of the 'official' package. Now that YSE stands to benefit from the former secret project and TFSP (!) stands to benefit in turn from a full-scale beta testing and support program, we surely have the best of both worlds! 8)

This will probarbly be called YaBBSE 1.6.0 ;)

Nice job, [Unknown], you are seriously a coder, modder and a great administrator. Looking forward to translate your version into Norwegian and to try it out. I have patience enough not to ask, as I really want the llamas back.

Now all we have to do is change the template and colours for YaBBSE to be more.. erm, modern. I know YSE can be done with a better layout before version 1.x is fully complete. Just look at what they did to Winamp 2.91, it wasn't complete after 2.81 as we thought.

If YSE1.x is finalized with a better layout then it would probarbly appeal positive to other users as well. Why do people use phpBB, because they have the possibility to change the template in almost no time, but the admin panel is more advanced and tricky than the panel for YSE. And it doesn't appeal much for the translators as good as YSE, who only got 1(!) file to be translated.

Thanks anyway :)

Looking forward to the next version, ETA: "When it's done!" ;D

Note, the quote is not supposed to be related to 3DRealms deadline for Duke Nukem Forever.

I think the default layout is more a reason,
that people get off their lame a**es,
and start to make their own templates.

It's not the colors which I don't like,
not the graphics.

It's just the structure and the placement of 'em.
Like in the Post.php.
(Here where you post messages.)

The 'subject' input field, 'message icon' select field,
YaBBC tags toolbar and smilies ...
They all should be placed better,
maybe with tables in TDs, with borders etc.

But actually I love the design.
Simple and a real 'like-to-look-at-it-daily-' design.

You would be surprised at the speed boost you would get by upgrading this to YaBB SE 1.5.2.  It is tremendously faster, and imho better than phpBB.  (of course, I'm biased as I am one of the people who wrote it ;).)

And, don't worry, I've been working on a new version - 1.6.0 - which has been completely rewritten, is about 30% faster all around than even 1.5.2, and is loved by my current forum's goers. (they don't *mind* beta testing ;).)  It also has new features, to boot.  (for example, themes!)
So.... you might want to take a moment before you decide to switch.

If you're wondering why I'm posting this here.... well, someone posted at www.yabbse.org linking to this thread, asking if YaBB SE was really tremendously slow.  I figured I might at least give you a chance to upgrade instead... if you are willing.

http://www.yabbse.org/download.php (look for yabbse_1-5-2_upgrade.zip.)

-[Unknown]

i like the sound of that 30% faster OMG ;D

Search around for the archive mod I made.  You can probably get it working for 1.5.2 with little effort.

Please, please, please drop support for Netscape 4.x and depend on the CSS for border styles... get rid of NTS now!

Everyone repeat after me:

No nested tables!
No nested tables!
No nested tables!
No nested tables!
No nested tables!

* Michele calms down

Sorry, nested tables and < font size=-1 > are two of my pet peeves.  ;)
