YaBB SE Version: 1.5.5
PHP Version: 4.2.0 to 4.2.2
MySQL Version: 4.0.x
Server Platform: Unix, Linux, or BSD

Problem Description:
hi, i'm new to this forum and yabbse, I used the search engine to look at chmod stuff, but I couldn't find the exact answer I was looking for.

my question is, is it possible to use yabbse without chmodding to 777 because my server doesn't allow that chmod, and if so what is the lowest chmod you can use for yabbse?

thanks for your help

It really depends on the server.  I recommend chmod'ing as high as it will allow.
