can i just upload and replace the currently smile file to the one i want? i try to do so but it doent work, i have check the file ext and so for the file name... help me pls.

If you mean upload grin.gif then yes it will replace your current grin.gif, just like what the admins did here to get the Christmasy smilies  ;D
But if you want to keep your original smilies, then wait for the Advanced Smilies hack coming out very soon! It's not working right at the moment, but it won't be long I'm sure.
