Scared to use Advanced Smilies...

I read some of the posts about the developement of the advanced smilies mod. It is a mod that lets you add more smilies, as well as other features, correct? Well, so far, none of the other features have been explained.

HERE you can see that with ALL the other versions of YaBB, you get a FULL description of the mod BEFORE YOU EVEN GET IT!

Also, I've noticed that people have been having a lot of troubles with the advanced smilies mod. I really want to be able to add more smilies at the click of a button (and type in locations of course), but I'm afraid to install a half assed, half finished mod.

Can you at least let us know the current version of the mod? Please!? I don't want a beta. I don't need buggy programs. I want a final release. I have come too far in this to blow it all and have to start over.

<==RANT
I have dealt with far too much crap with YaBB already. YaBB is AWESOME, but I've had a TON of problems. It's like a car. I've had the damned thing for years and it's been great, but it always needs SOMETHING. When I trade in for a new one, I expect to get something that doesn't need ANY work. Who buys a brand new car that needs to go into the shop right away!!?? I am referring to MODs here, not YABBSE. How can anyone possibly release a mod that doesn't work? How can you release somthing that hasn't been fully tested? You could at least make a note of that! You could at least mention it's a beta or SOMETHING! PLEASE!! FOR THE LOVE OF (insert name here)!!! :-X
END RANT==>

Please ignore my ranting. I just had to get that out of me on behalf of frustrated peoples everywhere. Sorry

aslo I just wanted to mention there is not a mod/codie in the world that intentially releases a buggy script.

sometimes even when beta testing proves successfull the end user has a problem with it.

and as you can see by reading all the posts about mods it is still very much in the originizing stages.

perhaps a word of encouragement to the mod makers would go a long way?

and you think they don't know where the boardmod site is? they wrote it!

If you are scared of my Advanced Smilies mod, write it yourself.  I guarantee that it doesn't screw up anything, it does have a few display problems, but they aren't that big of a deal.

Be afraid ... be very afraid. My entire board is now sporting an error message.  >:(

Well -- this should be a good test in respect to gauging backups ...

Currently I'd say proceed at your own risk.  We have not yet established a standard or review process and because of this we can't guarantee anything :)

Make sure you make backups and proceed with caution.  As already mentioned, beta testing can catch many errors but not all (as we can see with SE) :(

Patty: I don't see how that could happen, what is the error message ?

Oh oh, time to start packaging our fixes into one proper fix instead of releasing so many small ones...we should talk about this in the developer forum ;)

You know -- I did try to upgrade my package manager right before I did this, and I'm not sure if it took -- I loaded it through the package manager ... ?
