:) hmm...now, if you have text running into a smiley like this ;) it will accept it as you mean to write those characters, but, if you have a non-alpha numeric character before the smiley it will work.  so, stuff like this-:) and this=>;D should work, as well as [:)] this

well, it made no difference, but I'm not really  surprized you know, trying to put a smiley in a url is asking for trouble :P

Well, I came up with smiley in the url when trying different chars around smiley.

So I guess turning off the smilies is the best in this case:
